DAVAO CITY, Davao
— The Regional Development Council (RDC) is pushing for a full-blown feasibility study on the construction of the 1.2-kilometer bridge linking Davao City and the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), a regional economic official said.
Ma. Lourdes D. Lim, director of National Economic Development Authority (Neda)-Davao said they are now ensuring the conduct of the study or the detailed engineering of Samal-Davao Bridge Project likely this year.
This, in accordance with the recommendation of the pre-feasibility study conducted in 2015 by Katahira and Engineers International (KEI), a Japan-based civil engineering consultancy firm.
The timeline for the conduct of the full-blown feasibility study may take between eight months to two years, but this can be fast-tracked if all the needed data are made available, Lim told Sun.Star in an interview at the sidelines of the 2015 Report on the Economic Performance of Davao Region at Grand Regal Hotel last Thursday.
Lim noted that there are sectors that need to be taken into consideration.
"So it will really take time and we want to make sure that this project will not harm the environment, will not harm the residents and other sectors in the area," she said.
Lim said the project once completed will give benefits and elevate the economic potentials of both cities involved.
“Part of the study is an assurance that all other infrastructures will be complemented by the bridge," Lim said.
She said there has been a consultation conducted during the pre-feasibility study with residents that might be affected by the project.
